ONE-THIRD of all immigrants are uninsured. Our healthcare system is already stretched to the limit. We’re unable to arrive at a solution for the 43 million Americans that don’t have health insurance. Whether we're debating prescriptions for the elderly, Medicare, or just the cost of basic insurance to an individual, everyone is affected by our healthcare system. Adding more people is only going to make this a harder problem to solve. Foreign workers often work for lower wages and as a result often cannot afford healthcare. More than 8.5 million immigrants benefit from government- sponsored health insurance programs. This costs the American taxpayer more than $50 billion annually and dilutes the quality of healthcare that everyone receives. Immigrants and their children account for 31.7% of America’s uninsured (compared to 13% of U.S. born), which puts financial pressure on local governments and hospitals.
